Hello! So we discussed a few ideas for how it could "backfire", since the auracite can amplify and corrupt the holder's desires. Rem has a few sentimental wishes, first and foremost in this word is to learn her spells to bring back the dead. While she is already able to cast reraise via her "undying wish" ability-- it was never formally taught to her, and the reraise cast only lasts for 6 seconds. Deeper down, though, is a wish she doesn't quite want to consciously acknowledge, as it goes against her in-universe doctrine: to be able to remember the dead. So here are the two backfire ideas we're throwing out there:

  • the auracite backfires, and it brings back something that's spooky and undead that happens to be in the immediate area. how large or small a monster depends on what y'all want to approve. this could give people something to fight like a bounty monster? anyways, this idea is a corruption of rem's wish to be able to bring back the dead.

  • the auracite backfires, and it causes visions/phantoms of people's deceased canonmates, whether friendly or not, to appear around them and interact with the character (maybe even haunt them!)... you know, for extra psychological grief/trauma. this idea is a corruption of rem's deeper wish to be able to remember the dead. (for this prompt people seeing their dead canonmates

  • for both prompts, the scope would be limited to whatever island or shore she'd be on when she activates the auracite.

Besides that, the backfiring of the auracite deals more consequences to Rem herself (which can include corrupting of psyche and form). It's going to hurt her, but she's trying to find a place to merely store the souls she's gathered. Hence, asking for auracite.

and we're happy to work with mods for these being quest prompts, a mini event, or simply a CR-centric event. just let us know!

edit: what would be a reasonable timing for this to take place? July or somewhere later like August?
